Board of Directors - 3 positions open
Sharon Doolan* - I have been a member of the Board of Directors for 4 years and currently serve as the Board’s Secretary. I have been a member of Family First Credit Union since 1980. I have found this to be an interesting experience and have learned a lot about how a credit union operates. I have been married for 48 years, have 2 children and 4 granddaughters. I look forward to serving another term.
Timothy Genovese* - After serving in the Army from 1971 to 1973 I hired on at the Saginaw Police Department. On the Police Department I served in the Patrol Division as a Patrolman, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. I served in the Detective Division as an Investigator, Detective Sergeant, and Detective Lieutenant; I served as head of the Administrative Services Division and Crime Analysis. I retired from the Department in October of 2000. From 1974 to 1976 I attended Delta College receiving an associate’s degree in law Enforcement. From 1976 to 1979 I attended Saginaw Valley State University receiving my BA degree in Criminal Justice. After retiring from The Saginaw Police Department In October of 2000 I hired on at Saginaw County as the Director of Emergency management and Homeland security. I have served on many boards and commissions to include but not limited to: The Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, The Board of Directors of Michigan Emergency Management Association, The Board of Directors of The Saginaw Valley Emergency Medical Control Authority, and The Board of Directors of the Saginaw City Retirees Association. I have served on the credit union board of Directors since 2015. I hope to continue my service.
Joseph Turner* - Joseph M. Turner became a member of Family First Credit Union in 1971. A lifelong resident of the city of Saginaw, he attended its public schools and graduated from St. Mary’s Cathedral High School. He holds an Associate in Science Degree from Delta College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saginaw Valley State University, and a certificate in real estate with academic distinction from the University of Michigan School of Business. His work history includes a 30-year career with the city of Saginaw, dealing with property taxation and economic development. Mr. Turner owned four private firms: a sod installation company, eight years as a “fee” appraiser and real estate broker, partnership in Base(2)Systems, a computer software firm and for the past 20 years CEO of Michigan Property Consultants L.L.C. He still teaches state approved classes on matters related to property taxation. He’s written text books used in the classes and published articles in professional magazines. Several were either selected as featured articles or won awards. Mr. Turner has served as a board member on a number of community organizations. He was appointed to the Family First Board in 2018 and served as its Treasurer since 2021.
Supervisory Committee - 1 position open
Michael Foust* - It has been my pleasure to serve on the Supervisory Committee for the past five years. We have a good committee that works well together to monitor accounts, loans and review auditor reports to make sure that your money remains safe and that we listen to your comments and concerns. I have enjoyed learning about the banking industry and keeping up on new trends in security and technology related to credit unions. My background includes a bachelor’s degree in legal administration from Grand Valley State University and an associate degree from Ferris State University in paralegal studies. For the last twenty years of my career, I was a property assessor for various governmental entities, Equalization Director for Arenac County, and a planner for the City of Saginaw. Since retiring in January of 2020, in addition to serving on the Supervisory Committee for Family First, I serve on several boards and commissions for the City of Saginaw and am a volunteer for the book sales at the Butman Fish Library in Saginaw. Please keep me out of trouble and off the streets and re-elect me to the Supervisory Committee. I respectfully ask for your support and will do my best to serve you in the coming years.
Credit Committee - 2 positions open
Lori McGarrity* - I was born, raised and currently reside in Saginaw, Michigan. I am married with three adult children, one stepdaughter and four grandchildren. I attended Saginaw Public Schools graduating in 1977 and went on to Delta College to receiving a certification in Corrections. I worked for 23 years at the Freeland Correctional facility as a Corrections Officer and acting Sergeant and retired in 2018. I am an active member and volunteer at Hopevale Church in the security department. I also volunteer at Westcourt Assisted Living facility serving food/beverages, assisting residents with needs such as walking dogs, paying bills, laundry etc. and hosting recreational activities. My time is most enjoyed spending time traveling to see my grandchildren and seeking volunteer opportunities. I am an animal lover, enjoy puzzles, bowling and taking long walks. I have been a member of the credit union for over 30 years, my children were all members, and my grandchildren have accounts too. I’ve sat on the Credit Committee since 2018 and look forward to continued opportunities to serve.
Buford Gaiter Jr.* - Being able to appreciate continuous improvement, disciplined processes and fiscal responsibility are standards I followed during my 32-year career at General Motors and continue to use on a regular basis as a current member of Family First Credit Union’s Credit Committee. As a graduate of Saginaw High School and a lifelong resident of Saginaw, I have focused my time and energy on service through my church, Prince of Peace Baptist Church, where I currently serve as Trustee, President of the Laymen’s Association Sunday School treasurer and a member of the Scholarship Committee. And, because I believe strongly in the value of education and its relationship to economic empowerment, I also serve as the Chair of the Saginaw High School Class of 1973’s Scholarship Committee and award scholarships to our children at church to continue their educations. For the past 50 years, I have also been a researcher, specializing in researching genealogy, ancestry, and family history. It is because of this passion, that I served for several years on the board of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. Being a Credit Committee member continues to fuel my passion to witness economic development and continued growth in the greater Saginaw community. It is my hope that you will consider my request to serve a second term on this committee as it allows its members a unique opportunity to support continued growth and revitalization efforts in such an outstanding community and to see new business development firsthand.
